Camera Work Reflection

 Camera Movement Project

For my Camera Movement Project, I had to learn multiple types of different movements and what effects it had to the audience. We learned by watching different scenes from movies for some visual examples. By writing notes on the website we were provided, we understood more in depth what exactly the movement creates.

 THE PROCESS
The project itself was to create a short story using the prompt surprise' with 6 different movement, 5 listed, 1 of our choice. First, my team of 4 started off by writing our storyboard for the film. We decided on a story line where a girl would be walking down a hall ( a tracking shot) would turn the corner (pan) to a girl standing there waiting for her. The girl says 'surprise' and the camera would then pan to her hand, violently holding a water bottle. The camera then pushes in to her face to show her reaction. With both characters captured in the shot, still (static) the girl would suddenly start chasing after her with the water bottle (random movement.) This was really fun to film and was quick and easy to make.
CHALLENGES
Some challenges we had with this project was that it was difficult to make a elaborate story line with only 6 boxes to use. Another issue was that since we filmed on a phone it didn't look as nice or realistic as I wanted it to because the camera wasn't stable and establish all the shots accurately.

WHAT IVE LEARNED

From this project, I have learned different types of camera movements and also how to film them. I learned how much of an impact it has to the story line and how to create that visual effect to the watchers.

FUTURE

In the future, I hope we are allowed better camera so our work looks higher quality and maybe more time to develop a good plot with more uncommon movements. This project definitely wasn't the best, but was decent for our first project this year.

Camera Shots Project

For this project, I had to learn to analysis camera shots by single frames and what each means. With practice, it was more easy to distinguish similar shots like a long shot and a wide shot. Eventually, with enough  knowledge, we begun our project.

THE PROCESS
The directions for this project was to tell a story with only 15 pictures, each with different camera angles with only inanimate objects. For the first 20 minutes me and my partner used our time to brain storm a story with such a little prompt. After coming up with the plot and our title; Chapped, we drew our story board. Our short story was about a Aquaphor bottle who couldn't fit in to any groups. After completing this and getting it approved, we began filming, using our lip-glosses and lip-oils as side characters.

CHALLENGES

An obstacle we faced during this was the lack of things we could use. Finishing the project the day it was assigned didn't allow us to use our full potential and creativity to bring objects from home or have more time to come up with a detailed storyline. Another issue was that since it was only pictures and not videos, it was harder to show what was happening on each frame.

WHAT IVE LEARNED

From this project I have learned a lot of different angles and how to apply them to my own class. Along with this, I have learned new skills like how to show multiple actions in a 'film' with only one picture and how to show emotion with inanimate objects to add character and personality.

FUTURE

In the future I hope we can use people so we could visualize each angle more realistically or get a more specific prompt.
