Video Editing Practice Blog Reflection

Premiere Practice Project

THE PROCESS/EXPERIENCE
For this project, we were given interview clips and b-roll of a random ice cream shop, located inside a fair. We were told to edit these clips together in any order just to become familiar with the platform. The process of this activity was pretty simple for me given my past experience with this app. I have been using Premiere Pro for about a year now because in my tv production class we used it as our editing platform. I don't classify myself as an editor but my class last year helped me learned the basics and how to edit a simple package. Though, the video tutorials she assigned  taught me some things I didn't know how to do previously. The experience of editing the clips was peaceful, enjoyable and it required my focus. Since I've made these kind of  packages before, I knew the ideal format of it and was provided the clips to do so easily.

CHALLENGES
Some challenges I had with this project was that the interviews were hard to use because most of the people didn't restate the question or the camera was shaking. The b-roll was also quite repetitive, a lot of the clips were just the manager pouring ice cream in different angles or of different shots of the sign. I wanted the video to be fun an entertaining, so i tried to avoid using the same clips or actions. Another issue was that the music that was provided was super short so I had to keep on re-adding it.

WHAT I LEARNED
From the tutorials provided, I learned how to use a lot of tools in Premiere. I learned how to use markers to select a specific section of the videos to add to my timeline. I also learned how to use auto coloring and use effects to fade in and out the music.

The lower-thirds templates on premiere weren't the ones I wanted to use so because of this, I also learned how to download lower-thirds from a website and upload and change it in the app.

FUTURE
In the future, hopefully, I will be given more resources like longer music, more clips, and better interviews. I believe I did good with what was provided, and hopefully we can practice with Premiere more in the future to help practice for my 2-minute movie opening. All of my practice with this app will affect the production of my portfolio project. The video below is my final premiere practice.
